‘Rooftop’ is a modest addition to a Victorian warehouse residence in Shoreditch propped above the existing apex.
This project contains a small study for a film director and producer, as well as a master bedroom with window seats at both ends and a cantilevered external west facing deck. The asymmetric pitched roof is clad in slate and centres the skylight directly above the master bed to offer views of the morning and evening skies. The additional space carefully considers precise spatial planning and the impact of materials to the existing building’s proportions to create a thoughtful and fully integrated layout.
The design was conceived as an elevated sculptural form to compliment the adjacent streetscape. Our approach is to use natural materials, adding value through thoughtful and crafted details. The material palette of slate emphasises volume whilst providing a simple method to run rainwater from the structure onto the existing roof drainage.
